Highlights

Gir National Park is situated in the Junagadh district in Kathiawar Gujarat in one of India’s most precious and vital biodiversity vaults. The beautiful but harsh teak dominated habitat is the last bastion of the Asiatic Lion. This large tawny cat with an unpatterned body was reduced to a mere 20 in number about 60 years ago. Fortunately for us they have staged a comeback to about 250 in numbers today. So don’t miss this unique opportunity to see the King of the Jungle in this own domain. The Gir - the largest compact tract of dry deciduous forests in the semi-arid western part of India is the last abode of the big and regal predator Asiatic lion (Panthera Leo persica), an endangered species. The sanctuary is internationally acclaimed for successfully saving this precious species from the brink of extinction. It was declared as a sanctuary in 1965 with an area of 1153.42 sq kms. Subsequently, an area of 258.71 sq. km. was declared a National Park.
