Matheran Herp Trail

'Matheran' literally translates to forest on head indicating its location at 2600 ft. asl in Northern Western Ghats. Matheran is rich in biodiversity owing to its Evergreen and Semi-evergreen vegetation cover and moist tropical climate through out the year. Walking through these forest at night rewards us with the beautiful slithering and creeping creatures like the Bamboo pit Viper, Vine Snake, Yellow thighed Tarantula and a number of frogs. Recently declared as an ecosensitive zone by MoEFCC, there are no vehicular disturbances as it is an automobile free hill station.
